There is something that happens in the Twin Cities when the weather finally turns. The trails fill up. The patios open. The farmers markets come back to life. And suddenly, the calendar is packed with events that remind you exactly why Minnesota summers are worth every single month of waiting for them.

If you're looking to make the most of the season — whether you're a longtime local or you've just made your way to the metro area — this is your guide to the summer events worth adding to your calendar. These aren't one-night affairs - these are the long-running, week-spanning, all-summer traditions that define what warm weather can look like in the Twin Cities. So you have plenty of chances to check them out!

Mill City Farmers Market - Minneapolis - Every Saturday, May through November

Located along the Mississippi Riverfront in the shadow of the historic Mill City Museum, this is one of the most beloved farmers markets in the state. Local produce, artisan food vendors, live music, and a genuinely beautiful setting make it worth the trip. Come early — the good stuff goes fast, and the parking situation rewards early arrivals. My favorite item you should snag is the homemade lavender room spray!

Stillwater Farmers Market - Stillwater - Saturdays, May through October

For East Metro residents, the Stillwater Farmers Market is the local answer — and it delivers. Set in the heart of one of Minnesota's most charming communities, the market draws strong local vendors, a loyal crowd, and the kind of relaxed weekend energy that makes it easy to turn a market run into a full morning downtown. Pair it with brunch along Main Street and you have a perfect Saturday.

St. Paul Saints Baseball - CHS Field, St. Paul - Home games running May through August

A baseball on the banks of the Mississippi is an underrated summer experience in the Twin Cities. The Saints organization has built a reputation for creative promotions, a fan-friendly atmosphere, and a stadium that is genuinely one of the nicest in minor league baseball. With games spread across the entire summer, there is plenty of opportunity to make it out more than once — and the weekly promotions give you a reason to go back.

Check the Saints schedule at saintsbaseball.com for the full home game calendar and current promotions.

Minneapolis Aquatennial - Minneapolis - Annually in July

The Aquatennial has been a Minneapolis summer tradition since 1940, and it remains one of the most anticipated weeks on the summer calendar. The celebration spans multiple days and includes the iconic Torchlight Parade, fireworks over the Mississippi, beach volleyball championships, waterski shows, and a wide range of community events across the city. It's one of those events that draws locals and visitors alike and reminds everyone why Minneapolis summers are so special.

Check mnaquatennial.com for the current year's schedule and event lineup.

Sommerfest at Orchestra Hall — Minneapolis - Annually in July

For over forty years, Sommerfest has brought a celebration of European classical music, with a particular focus on Vienna and the Romantic tradition, to Orchestra Hall. The Minnesota Orchestra performs in a more relaxed, festive setting than the standard concert season, and the programming includes everything from full orchestral evenings to intimate chamber performances. It's approachable even if you don't consider yourself a classical music person, and it's one of those events that locals who've attended once tend to come back to every year.

Visit minnesotaorchestra.org for current programming and tickets.

Twin Cities Jazz Festival — Mears Park, Lowertown St. Paul - Annually in June

Mears Park in Lowertown St. Paul transforms into one of the finest outdoor music venues in the city every June for the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. Multiple stages, free admission to outdoor performances, and a lineup that draws both regional talent and nationally recognized artists make this one of the summer's most accessible and genuinely enjoyable events. The Lowertown neighborhood surrounding the park adds to the experience — great restaurants, walkable streets, and a neighborhood energy that feels distinctly St. Paul. Visit hotsummerjazz.com for the current lineup and schedule.

The location also hosts "Mears in the Park," a free concert event every Thursday throughout the summer. Make sure to check out both!

Minnesota Fringe Festival - Various Venues, Minneapolis - Ten Days in August

The Minnesota Fringe Festival is the largest non-juried performing arts festival in the United States, and it happens right here, across dozens of venues throughout Minneapolis. Over two hundred productions in ten days, from theater, to comedy, to dance, and performance art in every imaginable form. Nothing is pre-selected, which means the range is wide, but discovering something unexpected and brilliant in a sixty-seat black box theater is one of the great summer experiences this city offers.

Visit fringefestival.org for the full production list and ticketing.

Minnesota Renaissance Festival - Shakopee - Weekends, Mid-Aug through Late Sept.

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival has been running for over fifty years and remains one of the most beloved seasonal traditions in the state. Set on a sprawling permanent site in Shakopee, the festivities include jousting, artisan vendors, period food and drinks, costumed characters, and live entertainment across multiple stages, making it an experience that works for kids, adults, and everyone in between.

Visit renaissancefest.com for dates, themes, and ticket information.

Minnesota State Fair - State Fairgrounds, St. Paul - Late August through Labor Day

No summer events guide in the Twin Cities is complete without the Great Minnesota Get-Together. The State Fair runs for twelve days at the end of August and draws over two million visitors annually, making it one of the largest state fairs in the country by attendance. Food on a stick, the agriculture and livestock barns, free outdoor concerts, and the parade of beloved vendors that returns year after year. It is loud, crowded, warm, and completely irreplaceable. If you've never been, go. If you go every year, you already know.

Visit mnstatefair.org for dates, parking info, and the food and entertainment lineup.

Yoga in the Park - Lake Elmo Park Reserve - Thursdays, Late May through Late August

For something closer to home, for my East Metro neighbors, the summer yoga series at Lake Elmo Park Reserve is one of the East Metro's best-kept secrets. Weekly outdoor yoga sessions under the open sky, all levels welcome, in one of the most beautiful park settings in Washington County. It's the kind of regular summer ritual that grounds the whole season — and at $10 per class or $120 for the full season pass, it's one of the best values on this list.

Register online by searching "yoga" through the Washington County Parks system.

The Bottom Line

Summer in the Twin Cities is short, which means every weekend counts. The events on this list aren't one-and-done. They're the kind of recurring, extended traditions that give the whole season its shape. Pick a few, build them into your calendar, and let the summer fill itself in around them.

If you're newer to the area, or thinking about making a move to the Twin Cities area, this is a preview of what warm weather life looks like here. It's pretty good.

Thinking About Buying or Selling in the East Metro This Summer?

Spring and summer are the most active seasons in the real estate market, and right now is a great time to have a conversation about what's possible. Whether you're buying, selling, or just starting to think about your options, I'd love to connect.
